Mission Mudroom: Update

Well, another weekend of trying to put my house back together. Into every project I wonder 'what the heck were you thinking', but I always remember that when it's finished, I'll be happy.

Last I updated, there was merely a washing machine room wall missing. Well...don't think that I've been idle! Just to remind...here is what the guts of the mudroom did look like.

1/2 bath:

washroom:

So, I started removing cabinets and wall board and...well, everything. Let me show you why most people should refrain from working on their house. This is a picture of what was in my kitchen wall. There is a live wire just hanging out (these should go in a junction box), and there is a live wire plugged into an outlet which is then plugged into the microwave (again...everything in boxes please!).

Also, instead of moving this outlet to the wall board, the outlet was extended out of the box with copper spacers...3 words...in-a-propriate.

After all of the demolition, this is what Lacey is now living in...sorry Lacey!

Enough ranting Dad...so, what have you done to fix all of this!?! Well, we have moved the garage door towards the back of the house about 3 feet (to reduce the gridlock of the original entry location). We also rewired the appliance outlets, rerouted some bad wiring and removed all known fire hazards. Also this weekend, we moved the toilet in the half bath to the garage wall, ran new water lines and venting for a sink in the half bath. We moved the washer water lines to the back wall, reran all venting and water lines for that, and finally, moved the slop sink to the garage...yup venting and water lines needed there as well. We made some really good progress, but there is a lot still to do! Here's where we are:

Peanut Post: Columbus Auto Show!

Dad took me to go see cars at the auto show this weekend! We met Wally, Noah, Ahmed, Tip and Brady at the convention center and walked around to see all the cool new cars. See if you see a theme in the pictures below!

Captain's Blog: Bench Re-Do

Our neighbors that live behind us are very nice to Connor and, among other things, let us play basketball on their court. They had a bench that had seen better days...too much rain and sun left it in a sad state of affairs. So...while I was doing some destruction of my house, I thought I would do some construction with the salvaged wood to refresh their bench. And Connor and I couldn't help but take a couple of pictures while he was in a good mood!

Shrimp Dinner Recipe

For those that liked our post about the shrimp for our birthday dinners...here is the link to the recipe online: http://recipes.health.com/recipes/50400000109403-roasted-shrimp-with-smoked-chile-cocktail-sauce.

CAUTION: Use only 1/4 of a chipotle pepper...probably 1/8 would be best...it's VERY hot!

Peanut Post: Hello Mouth Doctor!

Dad took me to the dentist for the first time and I have to say...despite having someone rooting around in my pie hole...I did a pretty good job.

Here I am preparing for the 2 minute ride...

Upon arrival, I prepared to enter the Dentist's lair...

Once in, I was sat upon a blue chair upon which I received glorious dentist gifts! I was also given top secret eye protectors so that the light didn't burn my retinas! These were the last photos as I made Dad help me and stop playing paparazzi...

Mission Mudroom: Update

Once the door was into the kitchen, I could pick and choose the destruction process without worry of affecting the cleanliness of Lacey's house. The next step on the agenda was removing the old laundry room wall to take out some of the congestion of getting in and out of the house. The wiring was not set up how I would have thought, so I have some work to do there. Here is the before and after... (of course, my helper showed up for the pictures...but none of the work).

Mission Mudroom: Update

While Mimi was here, I got some free time this weekend to frame the new mudroom wall and install a 12-light glass door. Needless to say, Mom is very happy that the dogs won't be tracking muddy paws into the 'main house' anytime soon. Temporary wall covering (plywood) is up...now Dad can have a hay day tearing up the laundry room to do the plumbing and add some space!

Thank You Mimi and Papa!

Mimi and Papa (I mean PeePoo) came to stay to help out before, during and after Lacey's surgery. We are truly thankful for the help! This was not an uncommon site...Finn took full advantage of Mimi's presence!

Captain's Blog: May This Be the Last Time

One last trip...hopefully...for the Lauchards to the hospital. Quite an eventful year...Dad kicked it off with a brain injury, Mom ended it with a 2 1/2 hour long surgery. Good riddance!

Peanut Post: I Have Drank the Kool Aid!

My Papa came to stay with me for a couple of days and I got to watch LOTS of Fox news! By the time Papa left, I was sold! Conservative is my flavor!
